Corrupt the Ordinary
Yecid Ortega PhD is a Toronto-based Neurodivergent emerging artist exploring the intersection of urban life and digital distortion through glitch art. His practice focuses on documenting the rhythms, tensions, and quiet moments within the city—from the public transportation system to the bustling streets, vibrant markets, and everyday street life.
I capture raw footage, ambient sounds, and candid photographs of daily commuters and city-goers. Using experimental audio-visual manipulation techniques, he transforms these audio/visual data into glitch-based compositions that reflect the fragmented, fast-paced nature of urban existence. The resulting works (distorted images, looping videos, and fractured soundscapes) evoke both chaos and beauty, mirroring the emotional undercurrents of life in a metropolis.
My Instagram project, @signalnoiseglitchart, serves as a living archive of this exploration. It’s a space where analog reality meets digital disruption, and where the overlooked moments of city life are reimagined through the lens of glitch aesthetics. As a Neurodivergent newcomer to the art world at age 50, I embrace the freedom of experimentation and the power of technology to amplify voices and stories often lost in the noise.
Signal//Noise is
the distortion in the feed
the beauty in the breakdown
the echo of a system too clean to be real
